Common Application Process (CAP) - 3rd December 2008 The choice team combined with the S-Cool CAP consultants to run two successful workshops on CAP on December 3rd The Borough workshop was attended by 15 Boroughs and covered: • The DCSF aspiration to get CAP working by 2010 • The Choice strategy re CAP • The place of CAP in the transition plans to handover 14-19 from LSC to LAs in London • The experience of Kent who have 3 years piloting behind them and 70% coverage • An overview of how the S-Cool CAP system actually works The slides used to introduce the Borough workshop session can be downloaded by clicking on JMM Slides and Rob Williamson Slides The FE College workshop was attended by 11 colleges and covered the same items as the Borough sessions but with greater emphasis on: • Building links into existing FE College applications systems • Building easy links in FE College MI • Registering young people for CAP who are NEET or have ESOL needs or who are outside the system The slides used to introduce the FE workshop sessions can be downloaded by clicking on JMM FE Slides and Rob Williamson Slides The key messages common to both workshops were: • The need to keep improving the curriculum data on Choice • The enhanced role of PAs in supporting young people using the CAP • The preference young people have for using a single online process (Kent evidence) • The positive effect on NEET figures and September Guarantee targets (Kent evidence ) • The commitment to ongoing product development so that the CAP programme shares data automatically with School and College MI and Connexions CCIS systems Both workshops were balanced between accepting the inevitability and benefits of developing a CAP for London and a growing awareness of the strategic and operational challenges of the proposed DCSF timescale for a 2010 start Further information on the CAP pilots, the Local Authorities who have agreed to a CAP audit and the membership of the London CAP Steering Group will be posted on this site on a monthly basis . Common Application Process (CAP) - 1st October 2008 Click here for the Consultation workshop presentation Click here for the CAP pilot event presentation I think the session provided an opportunity for everyone to gain more awareness of the CAP and raise pertinent questions and issues with the Key outcomes being a need for: - a pan London CAP protocol to ensure young people were advised at all stages of the process. : A London wide steering group was proposed.
- greater knowledge of the CAP solution , the impacts and commitment within the wider stakeholder community : CHOICE would arrange further local seminars
- local authorities to assess their readiness for CAP : CHOICE would undertake readiness assessments with each interested authority
- local resource - funding and personnel - to be committed from local authorities: CHOICE would lobby the DCSF and support authorities
- a range of trials within and across local authorities: CHOICE will provide some funding and resource support
- simple MIS integration with provider course admissions systems
- simple need and provisioning analysis
